Zorro

November 28, 2020 by Webmaster Leave a Comment

I’ve been doing a lot of pop culture magic lately and I got to thinking about Zorro (childhood hero of mine) and how he would leave the mark of the Z. It was kind of a sigil since everyone knew what idea he stood for, and by extension what it meant when you saw the Z (much like the V in Vendetta).

Not only is this a good example of rune magic using a modern alphabet, but the more I thought about it he was kind of an egregore since he acted as the pointy end of the will of the people.

So what is that? Is there a word for this in magical nomenclature? It’s not exactly an egregore, but it’s not exactly invocation either.

What do you call it when you pull on the Zorro mask and act as the manifested will of a large group of people? (Or the V mask, or Batman, or Kickass?)

I’m speaking of course about when you are the original, not literally copying those fictional characters, but when it’s a brand new gig.
