The Trinary Approach

Transparency

It's just displayed on screen yo. Unlike a lot of tools, it doesn't do much for me to explain. You just look at it.

Authenticity

To give you the most info, and because the Tree of Life has changed so much over the years, this represents (like most modern representations) a mash-up of info from various sources.

Most of the Hebrew letters classifications and their elements, planetary, and zodiac correspondences come from the Sefer Yetzirah.

The Sephiroth, divine names, and basic symbolism come from Jewish Kabbalah.

The cosmilogical stuff and some of the adaptions come from Renaissance Christian Cabala and Hermeticism.

The tarot, colors, and magical image associations come from the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and modern pathworking. Except for the option to use Thoth, which I just added by request.

The psychological meanings, practical applications, and additional correspondences come from various modern occult interpretations.

EVERYBODY and their mother has a take on pathworking so there is a BROAD pool of data to draw from.

Privacy

There's not really much to do here that I could save, but rest assured I am not saving whatever you do with this, per my Privacy Policy.

Methods & Options

There are three different paths/trees here, so that option [Type] actually does the most.

Modern
The Tree of Life you have likely seen before as a practicing occultist.
Traditional
An older version of the Tree of Life
Alphabet of Desire
Peter Carroll's unique take on the Tree of Life, as seen in Liber Null.

Since the tree is similar to a map, the rest of the options are simply minor display options.

Background & Practice

Pathworking is a practice in which a person studies the Tree of Life to explore its psychological, spiritual, or magical meanings; sometimes through meditation or visualization. It can be done across the entire tree, or you can zoom in to particular segments of the tree to focus on certain relationships and aspects that you feel you need to understand better.

The Tree of Life has been revisited, adapted, and expanded several times throughout history so multiple versions of the Tree of Life are provided here.

Traditional

Originally it was religious cosmology/theology from Jewish Kabbalah which I have listed below as the "Traditional" type.

Modern

Later, Renaissance Hermeticism added things like: planetary spheres, body correspondences, macrocosm/microcosm mapping, alchemy blending, Greco-Egyptian Hermetic ideas, etc. Now the tree represented more than just cosmology and theology, it also represented the human body and soul.

Finally, the Golden Dawn inherited and expanded the system, systematizing and popularizing pathworking, as well as adding things like: Tarot correspondences, color scales, virtues/vices, ritual associations, elemental weapon systems, psychological interpretations, etc. I have this listed below as the "Modern" type.

There's no single universally accepted "correct" version. Different traditions and individuals use it in all kinds of ways ranging from formalized to willy-nilly, layering meaning and mapping to other systems in whatever ways they find useful. So you'll find many different versions floating around.

So, what began primarily as Jewish mystical cosmology turned into something that can be used as a psychological self-help map, a modern magical system, a Tarot system, etc.

Alphabet of Desire

Finally, I have also included a tree that is an entirely different take on the same high-level concept, but applied to the Alphabet of Desire. This version was designed by the late Peter J. Carroll and was shown in his book: Liber Null. I have this listed below as the "Alphabet of Desire" type.
