The Trinary Approach
What is Trinary?
It's a feature-rich technomancy tool with tons of traditional and custom options for your magical practice.
In 2015, Trinary started as a sigil generator for creating magic sigils based on intent, but since then I've added tons of other features like tarot cards, oracle decks, iching, and runes, numerology calculators, pathworking, rituals, dreamachine; you name it!
Why I Built Trinary Sigil Generator
I started doing magic in 2015 when I read about it in a Damien Echols interview, then googled “banishing ritual” and found Liber Null. Being a web-nerd, I quickly made a website about it (like I do with any new exciting interest I have). One of the first things I added was a Word Method sigil generator, just because I wanted to see if I could build it. Then I found out about using Kameas to make sigils, and I found a sigil generator called SigilScribe that allowed you to make them online.
But there was just one problem: I didn't like the order it removed repeats in. It seemed backwards from what I'd read in Liber Null, and it didn't offer an option to do it the other way around. So I added Kameas into my sigil generator with the option of removing repeated letters in either order.
I adopted that as my blueprint: Add more options. Don't tie the users' hands. Even if it was an option I didn't personally enjoy, if someone requested it I'd do my best to fit it in. I just kept adding and adding, eventually branching out beyond sigils with things like Tarot and I Ching and loads of other stuff (some of which I made up myself). That's how Trinary Sigil Generator got where it is today: Love of the game. Wanting to make something that was useful to others, as useful as possible.
Transparency: How Trinary Sigil Generator Works
Nothing about the process Trinary uses to generate sigils is a secret; it's happily explained. So you don't have to wonder if there's any secret occult ick being added. I wanted to make my tools work as close to offline magic as possible, and I will continue in that direction with full transparency of what's actually happening behind the scenes. In fact you can use Trinary as a learning tool to see how things work and then do it on paper yourself after you know how.
Just below your sigil you can see how your statement of intent is reduced and converted to numerology at every step.
For Kamea style sigils, you can learn exactly how the points are mapped onto a pattern by turning up the opacity on the [Kamea Color] to view it. No surprises here!
The remaining methods simply map the resulting numerology consistently onto different things besides points drawn on a picture, like musical notes or yoga positions. You can plainly tell how they work simply by typing A, B, C, and so on, while observing the result.
For randomness, Trinary uses the Mersenne Twister ↗︎ pseudorandom number generator. It's seeded using the current time, a high-resolution timer (and where applicable, your statement of intent) combined.
[Chaos] option is just randomness from the Mersenne Twister plus a little geometry.
Authenticity: Your Magick, Your Way
Wherever possible I try to preserve the experience of sigil creation and make the online process as close to the offline process as I can.
A tool, not a replacement.
I'm not interested in "doing it for you", just in giving you another way to do it yourself. And at the end of the day the most important step in sigilization happens in your mind when you charge it, you definitely still have to do that the old fashioned way. If you have one of those brain microchips, I refuse to touch that with a ten foot pole, lol.
To that end, I've added as many different numerology systems, kameas, and types of sigils as I could, so you can take your pick. If you have one you'd like to see added, just let me know! In many cases these are the same methods used traditionally, but now you don't have to dig for the right book on your shelf to find the kamea and numerology.
But I'm not just interested in recreating traditional methods. I'm a chaos magician! So I've also experimented with making up methods of my own by applying the same principles to things like music and yoga, or creating some original kameas. Love them or hate them, that's fine! Experiment, see what works for you, and make the practice your own. If you create something of your own that you'd like me to add, just contact me!
For kameas, you can use the straight lines provided, or draw them yourself with the [Draw] tool (that's very new and will be getting lots of updates). One of the biggest complaints about online sigil generators is "letting a website draw it for you". Now you can do it yourself.
For Word Method, Pictorial Method, and Mantrical Method, you have full editorial access to arrange letters, draw, and edit mantras.
Examples of Sigils Created with Trinary Sigil Generator
It's not rocket science, I'm gonna make it as much like "the real thing" as I can. If you have an idea how I could come closer, let me know. Because I believe it IS "the real thing", the pencil and the paper were NEVER where the magic was stored. We all know where magic is stored. We've seen the memes.
Some people think sigil generators don't work. Others have no issue with technomancy at all. I'm not here to convince you one way or the other, but personally I see it as just another medium to create the same magic on, and I'll keep updating to make the experience as true to that as possible. If you're not sold on the idea, feel free to ignore it, or just play with it and say "neat", or use it to learn the method so you can do the same thing offline with your somehow-more-magical pencil.
I still create plenty of paper sigils, but I find having an app extremely handy for when I don't have my sketchbook.
Privacy: Your Magick Is Your Own Business
Your statement of intent is always private!
(We never save, store, or read them).
Trinary does not store your statement of intent. It never even gets sent to the server.
Your magical intent is deeply personal and private. It's between you and the universe. It's none of my business.
I would quit the game forever long before I'd ever stoop so low, or do anything so unethical.
I may give you the OPTION to save SOME things in the future, but that will be YOUR choice, and not at all unclear or sneaky.
For those of you who are not tech savvy I'll explain it in simple terms. Some programming languages like PHP are "back-end" (they run on the server that hosts the website). Other languages like JavaScript are "front-end" (they run on YOUR computer, in YOUR browser). Trinary generates a sigil from your statement of intent using a front-end language (JavaScript) that runs in your browser. You load the page in your browser, you type your statement of intent, your browser does all the sigil creation you see without ever sending it back to the server.
I have seen with my own eyes, another popular sigil generator launch claiming to only store the X/Y visual info, then later talk and laugh about storing and reading all your statements of intent. I was appalled.
Be careful who you trust.
I'll say this as plainly as I can: That will NEVER happen on Trinary.
I've been here since 2015 with zero privacy invasions.

- From Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa's Three Books of Occult Philosophy, this system creates 3 sets of 9 letters and assigns them 1-9, 10-90 and 100-900. Somewhat similar to both Hebrew Gematria and Greek Isopsephy.
* Some write-ups by CMN. Thanks guys!
Kamea Sigils
Technically "Kamea" means a magic square, but I've been using it as a catch-all term for all patterns and shapes that follow the same basic principle of drawing a line to different points on a pattern.

- Witch's Wheel
-
The Witch's Sigil Wheel Generator uses a custom circular layout of the English alphabet in three concentric rings arranged in a spiral.
Numerology is skipped entirely and you just trace from letter to letter.
Since first programming the Witch's Sigil Wheel Generator I have searched for the origin of this sigil creation method for a while now (it's shared ALL over the internet). The earliest reference that I was able to find to the Witch's Sigil Wheel is its appearance in The Wheel of the Year, a book on witchcraft that was published in 2014 and which was written by Maureen Murrish. I am still not able to ascertain if that was the first appearance of the Witch's Sigil Wheel but I have reached out to her and I'm awaiting a reply.
- narZart
-
The narZart pattern is 9 areas arranged in a circle.
The narZart Sigils Generator is based on a popular tutorial image that is widely shared across the internet as an excellent explainer for how to perform sigil magick. I have searched for the original author with very little success. The trail usually runs cold at some long dead tumblr links but it seems that narZart was an artist and occultist who shared work online in the past. If you can put me in contact with the original artist please do, I love to give credit.
- Rose Cross
-
Rose Cross Sigil Generator uses an old method that used to be done on paper. The use of Hebrew letters arranged in a circle around the Rose Cross to create sigils is a specific practice within the broader tradition of sigil magic. The origins of this practice are not entirely clear, but it is believed to have emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries with the development of Hermetic Qabalah and the teachings of occultist groups such as the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.
The use of the Rose Cross in combination with the Hebrew letters arranged in a circle is thought to be a way of harnessing these energies and principles for specific purposes. The letters are arranged in a circle around the Rose Cross to create a visual representation of the energy flow or spiritual forces being invoked.
This practice has since been adopted by various practitioners of sigil magic, particularly those influenced by Hermetic Qabalah and other esoteric traditions. The use of the Rose Cross with Hebrew letters arranged in a circle to create sigils is therefore a relatively modern practice that has evolved from older mystical and esoteric traditions.
- Hypersigil

Elisabeth Elektra, a musician and occultist, released an album called Hypersigil on June 6th, 2025.
I made a sigil generator based on her album cover to launch together with her album (Behold the power of just asking for things!).
The sigil generation kamea is custom for the album cover, and the cipher is pretty standard numerology.

Freestyle Sigils
- Word Method Sigil Generator
-
Word Method Sigil Generator uses Austin Osman Spare's original sigil method of combining letters as described in Liber Null by Peter J Carroll
Austin Osman Spare was a British occultist and artist who developed a method of sigil creation that is known as the "Sigilization Method". This method involves taking a desire or intention and transforming it into a visual symbol or sigil, which is then charged with energy and released into the universe to manifest the desired outcome.
The process of creating a sigil involves several steps. The first step is to write out the desire or intention in a clear and concise sentence. The second step is to remove all vowels and repeating letters from the sentence, leaving only the consonants. The third step is to rearrange the remaining letters into a unique symbol or sigil that represents the original sentence. The fourth step is to meditate on the sigil, visualizing it as a powerful and transformative symbol that represents the desired outcome.
The final step is to charge the sigil with energy, which can be done in a variety of ways. One common method is to focus on the sigil while engaging in an intense physical activity, such as running or dancing, in order to generate a high level of energy. Another method is to meditate on the sigil while visualizing it being infused with energy from the universe.
Once the sigil has been charged, it is released into the universe to manifest the desired outcome. This can be done by burning the sigil, burying it in the earth, or simply releasing it into the air. The idea behind this process is that the act of creating and charging the sigil focuses the practitioner's intention and energy, and sends a powerful message to the universe about their desires and goals.
- Pictorial Method
-
Pictorial method sigil generation is not as formulaic as some of the other methods. You start with a simple drawing representing the outcome you want and then reduce it artistically to a glyph shape.
- Mantrical Method
-
As described in Liber Null, a statement of intent can be reduced and then rearranged into a mantrical sigil which can be recited.
Misc. Sigils
- Musical Method (Trinary)
-
I was always fascinated by the idea that sigils didn't have to be visual, so I created a system of generating musical sigils from a statement of intent, which I play myself.
The lines and spaces on the musical staff are assigned 1-9 and then the sigil is created similarly to other sigils, by using numerology to change your statement of intent into numbers and reducing as necessary.
In the end you are left with a musical pattern of notes instead of a visual pattern. You can hold the tune in your mind while you charge it just like you would hold the visual in your mind for a standard sigil.
It's a simple system that allows for wiggle room to make it sound nicer than random notes might. Add your own sharps and flats, decide your own tempo and the length of each note.
- Musical Method (Case)
-
The Trinary web-app can now output tone and color corresponding to letters, based on the works of musician and occultist Paul Foster Case (1884-1954).
Case blended together the existing divisions of Hebrew letters (mother/double/single), the colors (primary/secondary/tertiary), and musical scale (12 half-steps). Case drew heavily on the work of Edward Maryon (1867-1954), who created Marcotone (You can read more about marcotone in Marcotone: The Science of Tone-Color), and possibly also the Golden Dawn King Scale (similar).
You can read more about the system in Letter, Musical Pitch, and Color in the Work of Paul Foster Case, by Alison Deadman.
- Lenny Bruce Method
-
Revolutionary and controversial stand-up comedian Lenny Bruce was arrested on obscenity charges in 1961 (acquitted), 1962 (dismissed), and 1964 (convicted).
He is seen as an early martyr (he preferred "soldier") of the First Amendment, and his widely publicized 1964 trial included petition, testimony, and support from the likes of Woody Allen, Bob Dylan, Jules Feiffer, Allen Ginsberg, Norman Mailer, William Styron, and James Baldwin.
He later (1966) said that he was for saying the "nine dirty words", and authored How to Talk Dirty and Influence People.
Input your statement of intent and the Lenny Bruce Sigil Generator will give you a mantrical sigil to charge, based on these nine words. It uses an English Pythagorean cipher to assign each letter 1-9.
Obviously this isn't traditionally part of a magick practice, however a clever chaos magician can use anything that both represents and obfuscates an intent as a sigil. You could work it into conversation. You could charge it as a traditional mantra. You could shout it in public. Use your imagination!
- Kuji-In Method
-
The Kuji-in are nine hand gestures (mudras) which are associated with mantras, meditations, visualizations, rituals, and sometimes even Gods, planets, or stars.
They are used in various practices such as Taoism, Buddhism, Shinto, Daoist magic, East-Asian folk-magic, Onmyodo. They were used by Samurai, Ninja, and various martial arts.
Their first appearance was in 抱朴子, a Chinese Taoist text from c. 280–340 CE by Gé Hóng.
Translation:
"To enter a famous mountain, choose an opening day, which can be determined by its cyclical binary. Hang silk of the five colors, each piece five inches wide, from a large rock, so that you may be sure to succeed in your goal. Furthermore, while entering the mountains you must know the Six-Chia secret prayer. It goes like: "May the presiders over warriors be my vanguard!" This nine word prayer must constantly be recited in secret. It means, "May all evils flee me and the essential procedure present no trouble."
- Bikram Yoga Method
-
Bikram Yoga is a system of hot yoga consisting of 26 postures. It was created by Bikram Choudhury based on the teachings of B. C. Ghosh.
I mapped them onto English letters ordinally, so you can create a yoga flow from your statement of intent and use it as a kinetic sigil. This tool assigns one posture to each letter of the English alphabet.
Later I reverse-engineered it into a numerology system for other languages.
- Morse Code Method
-
Morse code is a system of dots and dashes that represent letters, developed while long distance communication was in its infancy. It's not traditionally used in magic however a clever chaos magician can find a way to use anything which encodes a statement of intent into a form that is not immediately readable to them.
- NATO Phonetic Method
-
NATO Phonetic Alphabet is a system of saying letters so there is a greater chance that they will be heard correctly over an audio communication with a lot of background noise. It's not traditionally used in magic however a clever chaos magician can find a way to use anything which encodes a statement of intent into a form that is not immediately readable to them.
- Braille Method
-
Braille is a script which is readable on paper by touch. It's not traditionally used in magic however a clever chaos magician can find a way to use anything which encodes a statement of intent into a form that is not immediately readable to them.
- Sign Language Method
-
American Sign Language is used to communicate via gestures rather than spoken word. It's not traditionally used in magic however a clever chaos magician can find a way to use anything which encodes a statement of intent into a form that is not immediately readable to them.

Background & Practice
What's a Sigil?
There are a couple main categories of sigils
- Sigils that represent entities
- Some sigils represent an angel, a demon, a god, or a servitor, and are typically kept around a while to focus on.
- Sigils for manifestation
-
Sigils are magical symbols that are created to represent an intention, desire or outcome. They are commonly used in magick and spiritual practices to help manifest one's goals and desires.
The theory is that symbols are the language of the subconscious, so if you want to deliver a message to your subconscious then you do it using symbols. Sigils create a unique symbol for your intent so that the message gets through loud and clear, because the sigil doesn't stand for anything else but your intent.
What's a Sigil Generator?
Traditionally, sigils were created offline. However, with the advent of technology, we have design programs like PhotoShop, and sigil generators in the form of websites and apps.
Technically a sigil generator is anything that generates a sigil, but usually it means something that automates the process in a specialized way. Like you enter your intent, and it gives you a sigil.
They can be websites, apps, or programs. There are a wide variety to choose from with various features, options, privacy policies, and terms of service. Read up on them before you start using them so there are no surprises.
Some people don't like the idea of letting a sigil generator do it for you, which is exactly why I also let you do it yourself.
Using Sigils
Modern sigil practices for manifestation are, for the most part, developed based on the work of Austin Osman Spare.
The theory is that your subconscious is where the magic happens, so you have to instruct your subconscious in a language it understands: symbols. The intent is transformed into a symbol to be thrust into the subconscious (and obscured from the conscious) via a trance-state and then destroyed (deleted), and forgotten by the conscious mind.
There's a lot more to it than that, and you can read more here:
Like a paintbrush, pencil, or photoshop, a sigil generator is only for creating an image (or for learning). You must still develop your statement of intent and charge your sigils. The sigil generator will not do that for you.
More permanent sigils representing entities come from a variety of backgrounds and practices, and are not typically destroyed or forgotten after use (except servitors, when you are done with them).
